Moose Hunts
Chasing a giant
moose through Vermont's northern reaches can be the hunt of a
lifetime. Based on a lottery hunt, requiring the drawing of a
Vermont Moose Lottery Permit, we guide only two groups of moose
clients each season (Two seasons each year) to ensure a quality
hunt. Utilizing thousands of acres to hunt, all scouting and
homework is done prior to the six day and nine day hunt. Each day
permittee, co-permittee and guide start their hunt on fresh sign,
often calling and still hunting through hot locations. V.O.C. guides
are expert moose callers, often utilizing only their voices and
using the same techniques Native Americans trusted their survival
on. Due to a moose's ability to cover several miles within a single
night, staying active and still hunting through the pre-scouted
locations is often the best method. Stand hunting before dark and
while waiting for daylight to arrive is also an excellent tactic to
get close to these huge animals.
Moose hunting
cannot only challenge the hunting spirit, but also the physical
aptitude of all involved. A typical day afield sends hunters and
guide walking over four miles per day in search of a trophy. Terrain
can be moderately steep to swampy and weather can change in a
moment's notice. For the hunter looking for a slightly less intense
experience, glassing and watching from the guide's vehicle is
another option.
V.O.C.'s moose
hunts include all food and lodging for the entire hunt, as well as
transportation to and from the hunting locations. Success rates vary
from each permit zone. The northern permit areas often yield success
rates at 70% or better.
